Digicel vs Flow: Prepaid Cell Phone Plans
The Digicel vs Flow debate is constant among Barbadians, given that they are the two main cell phone service providers in the island. We all loved Digicel’s prices, but hated the sometimes unstable service, while we cursed Flow’s prices and praised them for the data in even the deepest of gullies. Sometimes the roles are reversed.

Should I choose Digicel or Flow?
There is no clear answer to the Digicel vs Flow debate.
One thing is clear, if you want to spend less, choose Flow, but if you want more value for your dollar, Digicel is the answer. Otherwise, Digicel and Flow are neck and neck with their prepaid mobile phone plans. All of Digicel’s plans are expensive, but they come on the back of 1-4 more gigabytes of data and access to their apps like D’Music and Bip. On another note, it is often said that Digicel’s reliability in more remote places in Barbados is spottier than Flow. Flow costs less and offers less however, their dedicated WhatsApp messaging data could be a lifesaver for those who often use the app. However, both sides have their fair share of issues, like dropped or missed calls and shaky data connections.

As of March 14th, 2022, these are the plans and prices that Digicel and Flow offer for their data and minutes bundles. It is a close battle for both companies, but it is up to you to determine if the few dollars extra are worth the benefits. I only need a local phone number so that I can receive and make local calls. However, I am out of Barbados most of the year.
Please tell me their policy about prepaid plans, if the user is outside the country for 6 months and does not use the phone for months at a time.
Must I keep buying time every month, if I do not need it?
Do I need to go through the ordeal of a new sim card every time I come back to Barbados?
