Which Band Should I Join? Crop Over Bands Barbados 2022
The Crop Over Festival is a major aspect of Barbadian history, and its origins dates back to times of slavery. Now, one of the most thrilling parts of the Crop Over Celebrations is jumping and dancing in your favourite bands. History of Crop Over
During slavery, sugar cane was undoubtedly the most important agriculture on the island. This is why the island comprised mostly sugar cane plantations. Because sugar cane was the primary source of income and indeed a way of life by slaves, the end of the successful sugar cane harvest was momentous.
After the 1940s, when the global demand for sugar decreased and plantations on the island was closed down, the annual Crop Over celebrations dwindled, though they did not discontinue completely.
Later, during the 1970s, the Government made efforts to attract more international tourists, especially during the summer months, and those efforts included the revival of Crop Over celebrations on a wide scale.
These renewed festivals included events such as beauty contests, folk concerts as well as barge shows. Initially, these festivals targeted the upper class and international tourists, whereas, the cart parade was unique to the locals..
We introduced the donkey cart parades in 1974 and as the event grew, floats included local designs which paved the way for the Crop Over Bands in Barbados.
While previous Crop Over celebrations focused on heritage and Barbadian folk traditions, Crop Over the past years became focused on fetes, music competitions and Grand Kadooment.
Crop Over 2022
In 2020 and 2021, there have been no Crop Over Celebrations because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Now Crop Over is back and bigger than ever! Get ready for the return of Crop Over 2022!

Crop Over Bands are like floats at a parade. Crop Over Bands travel the festive routes and compete against each other for the best festival costumes. They have an air of exclusivity, because only members of the band can join private fetes. Here is a list of bands for Crop Over 2022.
