The Barbados Working Dog Association
The BWDA is not a business, it is a non-profit club. Our goal is to train and title the dogs of its members in the sport of Schutzhund / IGP.
We will work with most dogs and persons in Obedience in our controlled environment.
Schutzhund (German for "protection dog"), now known as IPO (Internationale Gebrauchshund Pruefung) is a dog sport that was developed in Germany in the early 1900s as a breed suitability test for the German Shepherd Dog. The test would determine if the dog displayed the appropriate traits and characteristics of a proper working German Shepherd Dog.
Our club's training and training methods are done from this background but does not mean that every dog has to be competitive in the sport. That's dependent on the personal goals of the handler and the general makeup of the dog.
We encourage new members to come out and see what the sport is all about.
